The Particulars: Anecdotal evidence suggests that intraprocedural stent thrombosis is associated with poor outcomes. However, little research has been conducted to evaluate the incidence and associated outcomes of this complication.
Data Breakdown: For a study, Columbia University researchers assessed angiographic data on nearly 11,000 patients. Intraprocedural stent thrombosis occurred in 0.8% of participants. However, those who developed the complication had significantly higher risks of major adverse cardiovascular events when assessed at 2 and 30 days when compared with those who did not. Those who experienced intraprocedural stent thrombosis also had significantly higher rates of a composite of all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, ischemia-driven revascularization, or new-onset out-of-lab stent thrombosis at 2 and 30 days.
