A statewide educational intervention on resuscitation training appears to have increased the proportion of patients who received bystander-initiated CPR and defibrillation by first responders. The combination of bystander CPR and first responder defibrillation increased from 14.1% before the intervention to 23.1% after. Survival with favorable neurological outcomes increased from 7.1% to 9.7% and was associated with bystander-initiated CPR.
