There is an association between sexual dysfunction and BPH-caused lower urinary tract condition. TURP is a standard method of treating BPH. This study understands the relationship between the parameter studied by color Doppler US (CDU) and the presence of sexual dysfunction in individuals with BPH a year after TURP.

The parameters calculated by CDU were PCAR (presumed circle area ratio), MHA, RIP, and PSV. The lower UT symptoms got evaluated based on the international prostate symptom score, and the 5-item International Index of Erectile Function version.

103 patients had no disorder prior to TURP, and in those, 11 had ED after TURP. These eleven individuals had lower MHA, RIP, PCAR, and PSV than those without ED. Individuals who had retrograde ejaculation after the treatment had lower PCAR than others. Those with premature ejaculation post-treatment had lower MHA. Those with sexual dysfunction had lower PCAR, MHA, and RIP after the treatment. There were no such differences in individuals without sexual dysfunction post the treatment.

More-extended TURP might lead to retrograde ejaculation or ED in patients with no sexual dysfunction problems prior to TURP. There is a higher chance for individuals with lower seminal vesicle volume to experience premature ejaculation after TURP.
