HSDD (hypoactive sexual desire syndrome) or the low drive has a negative association with personal distress. However, in-depth data on this association is not yet analyzed. This study aims at understanding the association of low drive with epidemiological HSDD and psychosocial factors among Australian females.
The research uses a cross-sectional study covering 10,554 females in the age group of 18-79. The subjects’ sex drive was calculated using the female sexual function questionnaire profile and questions regarding the sexual function index in the female.
The majority of the subjects had partners (66.5%). 38.9% of the subjects were recently inactive. The low drive was higher in subjects in the age group 18-24 (27.4%) and 75-79 (91.6%). More than half of subjects in 25-39 years had personal distress affecting the drive. eHSDD increased in subjects from 18-24 group (12.2%) to 40-44 group (33.4%) and then remained constant up to 60-64 (33.1%). Beyond that, there was a decline to 7.3%. HSDD has a positive association with psychotropic drug use, education, sexual inactiveness, and being partnered. It has a negative association with Asian ethnicity.
eHSDD is more common in midlife. The likelihood of the condition is higher in subjects with higher education, psychotropic drug usage, sexually inactive, and partnered.
