The Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that counts of fatal crashes involving older drivers (those aged 65 to 74, and 75 and older) rose, though modestly. In fatal crashes involving 65-to-74-year-old drivers, nearly 63% of those killed were drivers and their passengers, while other road users accounted for 37% of related fatalities. For drivers aged 75 and older, however, drivers and their passengers constituted 78% of the fatalities.
