Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common occurrence in general surgery patients, but it is little understood in urologic surgery patients. The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence and risk factors for POD in patients having urologic surgery. For this review, eighteen articles were included. After urologic surgery, the pooled incidence rate of postoperative delirium was 1.69 percent. Longer intraoperative duration, male sex, single status, and age have all been identified as risk factors for POD.
POD is prevalent following numerous urologic procedures, and it contributes to worse postoperative outcomes and increased healthcare utilisation. Future research is required to properly assess and prevent POD.
