Little is known regarding the long-term reproductive consequences of pelvic infection in the presence of a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG-IUD). The removal of an LNG-IUD during a pelvic infection is not recommended by society. A 37-year-old lady came with primary infertility, with intrauterine adhesions in the shape of an IUD being the only contributing cause. She had previously been known to have an LNG-IUD and was treated for asymptomatic chlamydia infection while the IUD was still in place. She successfully conceived spontaneously after adhesion lysis.
Data on the long-term reproductive implications of pelvic infection with an LNG-IUD in place are lacking, and there may be ramifications altering the intrauterine environment that require more research and maybe counseling.
